The Milwaukee Homeschoolers Group is a group for homeschooling and unschooling families in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas. We are based in Milwaukee city and our events center in the city and county of Milwaukee, but members from all over the metro area are welcome to join. Our goal as a group is to build community by connecting with others (both children and adults!) and to explore our environment through relaxed free play and adventuring.
Our events are appropriate for children of all ages, so even if they’re not technically homeschool age yet, it’s totally appropriate to come out and get to know the group! Some events are smaller with just a few families attending, and some of our larger events host 50-90 people, so there’s a lot of variety.
Events are offered multiple times each week at a variety of dates and times in a variety of locations. We meet weekly on Tuesdays from 10-3, each week following a different activity or theme, such as jewelry making, book discussion groups, yoga, making creations out of cardboard, sewing, celebrating holidays, STEAM Lego Robotics classes, and so much more.
We also meet throughout the week at other locations and times to explore the world. We have a balance of academic opportunities like classes through the MSOE STEM Center, Tosa STEAM Academy and area libraries; exploration such as visiting local museums, attending performances in theater, dance, music, opera, ballet; nature activities such as visiting the Urban Ecology Center branches, nature centers and preserves, hiking, swimming, walking and biking; and social activities like going to parks, pools and splash pads, amusement parks, festivals, parades, sporting events, playing soccer, ultimate frisbee and capture the flag, playing board games and lots more.
We also have day trips and overnight trips each year, including our annual camping trip, and trips to waterpark hotels. We’ve traveled to Chicago, Sheboygan, Green Bay, Madison, Indiana, and Kenosha.
